Located only 2 miles south of the Vegas strip, the Silverton Casino is where locals and Vegas insiders come to truly relax. Enter the main lobby of the casino, and you will be greeted by the soothing sights and sounds of waterfalls, be amazed by the enormous Mermaid Aquarium, and become mesmerized by schools of fish flittering around before your eyes. The oval shaped, 117,000-gallon Mermaid Aquarium stands towering in the middle of the foyer and is home to thousands of playful, colorful, fish that can be viewed from nearly every angle. With its 25’ wide curved front viewing window, just walking in the front door will have you feeling like you’ve gone “swimming with the fishes.”
On display, you can see five species of stingrays, three odd looking guitarfish, six types of sharks, thousands of reef fish, and even mermaids! Biologists get in to hand feed the rays 3 times a day, every day, at 1:30pm, 4:30pm and 7:30pm during the free interactive feeding shows. Come watch and be amazed as the diver feeds chunks of food to the huge stingrays, tells you about the different types of rays and fish, and even personally answers your questions. All while underwater! If you’re brave enough, you’ll want to stick around for the shark feeding, where once a day the biologist ventures over to the shark feeding area to hand feed the resident sharks. That happens every day immediately following the 1:30 stingray feedings, so come watch a show.
